Inspiration
My images engulf the viewer in a perspective, a moment, a feeling. I believe that by looking at the world through a perspective we’re unaccustomed to, we can find more empathy, a deeper appreciation, and a sense of responsibility for a world we take for granted.
My love of photography
Since a very young age, I’ve been interested in art. I’m drawn to the Abstract Expressionist belief that large-scale works should be experienced up close, as well as to Color Field painters like Rothko and Frankenthaler. I am also inspired by the frank and experiential nature of Serra’s sculpture. My work explores similar themes and techniques through the medium of photography.
Photography has become one of the most, if not the most, accessible media. With a smartphone in every pocket, everyone is a photographer, snapping thousands of photos with no real thought behind them.
But when I’m photographing a landscape, I am forced to slow down. Like a painter or artist approaching a sketch, I really look at what’s there—the light, the color, the lines and shapes—and feel what the scene evokes. It becomes almost meditative as I watch the changing light and what that does to the moment. It’s that experience I try to bring to others through my photographs: to slow down and take a moment to really see something new or something you rememeber.
About Glennis
Glennis K Lofland is a self-taught photographer of Siksikaitsitapi (Amskapi Piikani) descent based in Norfolk, Virginia. She draws on her experience growing up in the country, her Amskapi Piikani heritage, and her travels throughout the United States and around the world.
She challenges herself to find an unexpected angle, perspective, subject, or framing of a landscape. The photograph is less about the literal scene, and more about the light or the color, a shadow, or an emotion. She understands that art is a personal expression for both the artist and the collector drawn to the work, and she especially loves working with designers and clients to showcase their interests with their interior design.
FAQs
Why do you print and frame to order?
The pieces I print are huge, and I simply do not have the space or budget (at the moment!) to keep all of my pieces on hand and ready to ship. I am working toward a dedicated space or studio where I can actually keep my work on hand—which means I will be able to ship things out as soon as an order comes in.
I also do not like working with print-on-demand printers for the main reason that mistakes can happen in the printing and framing process. Because print-on-demand printers ship directly to the customer, I never get to see the final product and cannot examine and ensure its quality before it goes on to its new home.
Fine art photography is an investment. By printing and framing to order, I can make sure that each piece I send out is exactly what I intended to capture in the camera and meets or exceeds your expectations as a collector.
What is your return policy?
All art sales are final. If you have any questions regarding printing or framing, please email me at glennisklofland@gmail.com prior to checkout, and I will be happy to answer questions or send additional photos.
What is your shipping policy?
All prints and framed photographs ship for free within the continental United States. I do not currently ship outside of the United States. Due to carrier shipping delays, I cannot guarantee a delivery window, though most items should arrive within 5-10 business days. If you have requested custom framing, delivery may be longer to accommodate for framing lead time. For additional questions please contact Glennis at glennisklofland@gmail.com.
If you’re local to Virginia, DC, Maryland, or the northern part of North Carolina, I’d be happy to deliver and install in person. Not only will you receive your piece sooner, this also reduces the chance of any issues or breakage during the shipping process.
Do you offer framed prints?
Yes! I work with a framer to ensure quality of both the print and the frame. I offer ready-to-buy prints already framed in black, white, or natural wood frames with white or black matting. I also offer canvas prints framed in black, white, or natural wood float frames. If you have a particular size photograph and style of frame in mind, shoot me a message at glennisklofland@gmail.com. I’d love to talk with you about your vision!
For unframed prints, I’m happy to offer framing suggestions.
What is a Certificate of Authenticity?
A Certificate of Authenticity proves a work is 100% authentic and genuine. These documents are particularly important for fine art photographic prints because our digital world makes it so easy to steal and/or reproduce a photograph. All of my prints and framed photographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity that proves the work was created by me.
I use the Hahnemühle Certificate of Authenticity system, which is a top choice of many fine art galleries. Each certificate is printed on premium deckle edged paper with a Hahnemühle watermark and fluorescent security fibers. A pair of serialized numbered holograms accompany each certificate—one is adhered to the certificate itself and the other to the reverse side of the print to ensure that each certificate relates to exactly one print.
Do you offer prints of different sizes than what’s listed?
I print all of my photographs at a minimum of 24x36”—but nearly all of them can go bigger! I love working with clients on pieces that will make a BIG impact in their space. If you’re looking for a different size than what’s listed, send me a note at glennisklofland@gmail.com.
Do you accept commissions?
Yes—with some exceptions. I love working with clients to create a piece that will make a BIG impact in their space. However, please keep in mind that I am not a wedding, family, or event photographer. I create abstract, black and white, and landscape fine art photography. If you like my style of work and have a piece in mind, let’s chat! Shoot me a note at glennisklofland@gmail.com
